"As a tip for future guests, make the most of the recommendations left in the amazing folder that Martin and Kim have prepared, especially the food guides."

"Your local knowledge is fantastic from walks and pubs to places of interest. Cary arms; Thatched Tavern; Becky Falls; miles of fantastic coastal paths right on your doorstep; Watcombe Beach, mid morning, to ourselves, end of September, in perfect weather, perfect!"

Greenway, Galmpton

Greenway is a beautiful country house with a

woodland garden on the banks of the River Dart.

Of all its well-known owners it is Agatha Christie

who is best known to visitors.

She bought the estate in 1938 and used it as her

summer residence until her death in 1976.

Greenway was given to the National Trust by

Agathas daughter and family in 1999.

The glorious gardens were opened to the public

in 2004 and the trust is now restoring the house and cataloguing the many personal collections inside.

The house opened to the public in 2009

If you take a few seconds to read our past "guest comments", it won’t take you long to see mention a multitude of places visited, ate in or enjoyed, which are personally recommended by past to future guests. From family friendly activities, to up to 50+ fantastic restaurants, there is always something for everyone. An example of one of our many past "guests comments" comes from a family who stayed in threshing barn in July who said:

"We haven’t visited Devon for years but Threshing Barn was perfect and in a really central location. There is so much to do! Future guests should definitely visit: Paignton Zoo, Teignmouth, Brixham, Dartmouth and Model Village! What a great place!"

The photo montage of pictures (top right) shows some of these in the area as well as the video.

The major reason they can mention such a number is due to our philosophy of bringing the ‘Tourist Information’ centre concept to them. Having lived and raised our family in the area since 1997, we have accumulated a great amount of local knowledge, and uncovered some real gems. In each barn we provide our own documents on walks, beaches, man-made and natural attractions, eating in and eating out.

Attractions have details on zoos (Paignton, Living Coast, Pennywell, Shaldon, Miniature Pony), boat trips (speed or leisure with dolphin and seal spotting) & adventure parks (Creally & Dartmouth); wildlife centres, steam trains & leisure centres; golf, tennis, fishing & crabbing; theatres, museums & multi-screen cinemas; castles, national trust properties, historic buildings, parks and gardens; crazy golf, pitch & putt to go-karts.

Beaches cover up to 20, from coves to long stretches of sand; pram accessible or not; dog friendly or no; beach facilities or not.

Eating ‘out’ list up to 50, with 14 high-lighted from 15th Century ‘Thatched Tavern’ Inn next to beach & countryside; 17th Century ‘Cary Arms’ over looking harbour & bay; ‘Angels’ tearooms; Michelin starred to kids favourite such as Pizza Express; child or even dog friendly.

Eating ‘in’ guide covering local shop provision from ‘Crusty Loaf’ bakers, Paul’s Plaice Fish & Chips (best in the bay), Coop & Woks Cook-in; to home delivery of pizzas & curries.

Walks - with over 60, some starting from the barns; coastal or inland, pub, beach or village located.

Write ups on the surrounding area.

Due to our position in Torquay, we have easy access to all these. I don’t know why you are looking at coming to Pilgrims Rest but we are confident that whatever your reason our locality can facilitate in spades!
